Veloz Pasajera (1830)

Voyage Overview

The Spanish vessel, Veloz Pasajera, left Havana in 1830 and purchased 556 enslaved people at Jakin by 7 September 1830. The captain, Jozé Antônio de Lavela, sailed the vessel, owned by Jayme Tinto, toward Cuba when Captain William Broughton of the HMS Primrose captured the vessel somewhere off the coast of West Africa. The British and Spanish Court of Mixed Commission, Sierra Leone condemned this vessel and registered 530 Liberated Africans by 16 October 1830. For more information, see Map of 1830.
